Family returned to Australia on board ‘Orveito’ on 5 December 1919 and he was officially discharged on the 22 January 1920.

ANNEAR, Leslie Charles
Captain William Richard Annear was born in 1875 He first attained commissioned rank in 1906 when he was appointed to a second Lieutenancy in the 84th (Goldfields) Infantry Regiment. In the following year he became a lieutenant, and in 1909, while still with the same regiment, was promoted to rank of captain. Early in 1912 he was placed on the unattached list, but later in the same year he was appointed area officer (temporary) and had charge of the Cottesloe area at the outbreak of was. He volunteered for service, and in September last was appointed a captain in the 11th Battalion.

A Woodturner, aged 21 years, he enlisted on 7 September 1914 and embarked with the 1st convoy from Albany, WA on 2 November 1914 on board HMAT Ascanius.
He took part in the landing at Gallipoli and fought right through until just before the evacuation when he was sent to Egypt, wounded in action he was sent to the UK. On the 29 February 1916 he was transferred from the 11th Battalion (his original Unit) to the 51st Battalion and was sent to France. Wounded twice in France, the second time with several bomb wounds, he was sent back to the UK and finally repatriated back to Australia and medically discharged on 9 February 1918.
